According to reports, the incident took place in Daraganj area near Sangam. Some unknown miscreants came wearing masks and started firing. During the day, near the vegetable market in Daraganj area, three to four unidentified miscreants fired two rounds targeting a person named Gagan Nishad and hurled several crude bombs.

No one was hit by the bullets but the bomb exploded directly on Gagan Nishad and he got injured. The bomb shrapnel also hit Mahakavi Nirala's grandson Akhilesh Tripathi and two women who were buying vegetables. The women suffered minor injuries but Akhilesh was seriously injured. After which he was taken to the hospital for treatment. Akhilesh died in the hospital.

According to the police, Gagan's father was murdered a few years ago. Some criminals in that case are still in jail. Gagan has an ongoing enmity with the people in jail.
