Before Gujrat poll, Congress register massive victory in Gurudaspur bypoll election

Punjab: Congress candidate from Gurudaspur registered massive win against the BJP and AAP candidate in Gurudaspur Lok Sabha bypoll election. The counting took place on Sunday morning in which Sunil Jhakar won by 1.9 lakh votes.

The bypoll election held on Wednesday 11th October, which was seen as the barometer of newly assumed congress government in Punjab. The voter turnout was around 56 percent. The Gurudaspur seat fell vacant after the uncertain demise of actor turned politician Vinod Khann of the BJP in April.

Earlier Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh had expressed confidence of winning the Gurdaspur Lok Sabha by-election “with a margin of over two lakhs”, saying his government has brought the state’s economy back on track.

The Aam Admi Party which was earlier believed to major player in the Politics of Pubjab performed poorly. AAP candidate Major General (Retd) Suresh Khajuria loses his deposit after crashing out of the race. The BJP contestant Swarn Salaria too lost the battle by margin of 2 lakh votes.
