Big Win For Trichy Police; Prevent 9 Years Old From Forced Marriage
It was the moment of joy for Trichy Police on Thursday as they able to prevent 9 years old girl from forced marriage to a 39-year-old man.
According to Times of India report, after receiving tip from an anonymous caller who almost ranged up all the women’s police station of Musiri and said that they have some information regarding the marriage of a 4-standard student to a 39-year-old man.
Villagers revealed that it is a common practice to fix the marriage in childhood but the actual marriage would take place after girl become adult. This practise is done to seal the relationship of particular boy and girl.
Chairperson of CWC Trichy, S Indira told TOI “Preliminary reports showed that there was a proposal for the marriage. The girl is being kept under our care. We are awaiting reports in this regard after which we will decide on her future,”.
It’s not a first case, child marriage is quite common in the state, but police is very effective in rescuing the minors by tracking them down. According to the statistics by the Tamil Nadu government more than 1500 child marriages were prevented in the span of January to November 2017 in the state.
However, the officials seemed shocked, they said child marriages at this age is rare.
