The Tribune claimed breach in Aadhaar data, report says that it took just Rs 500 and 10 minutes for the newspaper to get an access through an “agent” to every detail of any individual submitted to the UIDAI, which includes name, address, postal code (PIN), photo, phone number and email.
Reacting to this Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) registered an FIR against the journalist Rachna Khaira. Apart from Rachna FIR has been registered against three more named Anil Kumar, Sunil Kumar, and Raj.
FIR has been filed under various sections of Indian Penal Code, Sections 419, 420 (cheating), 468 (forgery) and 471 against the accused.
According to Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) Aadhaar data, including biometric information, is fully safe and secure and there has not been any Aadhaar data breach.
An American computer professional and former Central Intelligence Agency employee Edward Joseph Snowden comes forward in support of journalist Rachna Khaira and tweeted “The journalists exposing the #Aadhaar breach deserve an award, not an investigation. If the government were truly concerned for justice, they would be reforming the policies that destroyed the privacy of a billion Indians. Want to arrest those responsible? They are called @UIDAI.
He added “It is the natural tendency of government to desire perfect records of private lives. History shows that no matter the laws, the result is abuse.”
However, Editor of The Tribune said that they will stand by their story and would explore all legal options.
