Four consecutive years of lies and fake promise
Mirah Zamin
Four years back on May 26, 2014, Bhartiya Janata Party ( BJP ) came to power with an absolute majority in the parliament defeating the Indian National Congress. The card on which Narendra Modi won hearts of millions of Indian was ‘development’, ‘a corruption free state’ and a ‘promise to provide employment’.
But now as we can see Prime Narendra Modi and his Cabinet is just publicly backtracking from the promises the BJP made during 2014 Lok Sabha elections. But these were the promises that led to a BJP’s humungous victory. In 2014, people of India gave Narendra Modi a sweeping mandate, but instead of the promised ‘Acche Din’, they are witnessing a systematic attack on India’s institution. The promises made by Narendra Modi have now left the citizens bewildered and confused. His work of all these years will determine BJP faith in the upcoming 2019 General election. The Prime minister brought hundreds of schemes into effect for youths, women welfare and what not.
What can be on agenda this fourth anniversary?
Narendra Modi and his government have to really do some magic with their wands to engage the farmers in order to win the 2019 elections. The vote of farmers will be very crucial and essential for BJP to win and with the track record of doing nothing for farmers since past four years can only be compensated with winning their trust on BJP.
If the government doesn’t speed up its development agenda soon there are fair chances of losing the vote of trust. This one year can be taken as a bonus to fulfill all the promises made to Indians during 2014 general elections.
Unfulfilled promises
Ganga clean up
Narendra Modi established an independent ministry for this cause but nothing much has happened about this flagship vision that made him won his seat from Varanasi. The BJP ensured cleanliness, purity and uninterrupted flow of the Ganga on priority.
Generating Employment
In past four years, the Modi-led government has not even able to create the number of jobs that were created during 2013-14 by United Progressive Alliance (UPA). The current BJP government has failed to keep his promise of creating one crore job opportunities for youth. Schemes like Make in India, made in India have been a big flop.
Swachh Bharat Abhiyan
The biggest poll promise and a flagship scheme of the Modi government, Swachh Bharat, has failed to live up to its hype. The launch of this particular scheme saw Indian Prime Minister with his statement photograph of sweeping road with a broom, but all in vain. If we go by the data the India Spend report in 2015 said over a crore toilet were built during the per year in the period 2008-11, compared to just 80 lakh toilets built across the country in 2015-16. A survey by the National Sample Survey Organisation (NSSO) in 2015-16 also highlighted that six out of every ten toilets built under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan had no water supply.
Where is the Rs 15-lakh promised
This one is the most publicised promises made by Modi during the Lok Sabha elections’ campaign that the NDA government would credit Rs 15 lakh in every honest taxpayer’s bank account after it had brought back the black money stashed overseas. In reality, India witnessed run away of Vijay Mallya and Nirav Modi taking away tax-payer money.
Even, demonetisation was done in order to bring in black money. But, all that is done, and Indians are still yet to receive Rs 15 lakh.
On the lighter mode, something also has to be done about the Prime Minister’s scriptwriter too who often write interpreted, manipulated and non-factual information take the case of recent Karnataka election where Modi in his speech, said that Nehru insulted Karnataka two military icon: Field Marshall Cariappa and General Thimaiyya as a matter of fact, nothing like this happened.
