According to a survey Delhi tops in crime list, Delhi Police rejects the report
According to the latest survey by an NGO Delhi comes out to be the most ‘crime happening city’. The report released by Praja Foundation on Thursday.
The report says In Delhi, every third person face crime but hesitate to register at the police station as they have fear about local goons and most of them did not have belief in our administration.
The report says crime against women has constantly risen in last few months, according to findings 2,181 cases of rape and 3,969 cases of molestation have been reported in 2016. The NGO surveyed more than 24 thousands of houses under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005, to come up with the report.
In the statement Milind Mhaske, the project director of Praja Foundation, said, “One can clearly draw an observation between the feeling of safety and security of women and children to the registration of cases, as out of the total 2,181 rape cases registered in 2016, 44.80% were under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in 2016.”
In response to the report, Delhi Police spokesperson Dependra Pathak said that the number of households selected for the survey doesn’t give a true picture of the ground reality. Our top priority is the safety of children and women. As police department is understaffed, Delhi Police is in the process of recruiting more staff.
