Gujarat On High Alert

The predicted arrival of Ockhi in coastal Gujarat forced political parties to
cancelled their scheduled rallies involving big names like of Congress’s
Rahul Gandhi and BJP President Amit Shah.

Rahul was supposed to attend the rally in Anjar and three meetings in
Morbi, Dhrangadhra and Surendranagar. While Amit Shah was scheduled
to address rallies in Rajula town of Amreli and Mahuva and Shihor of
Bhavnagar district.

Rahul and Amit Shah both have to cancelled their scheduled rallies and
meetings due to ockhi.

According to party leader BJP also called off rallies and press conferences
of Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and UP CM Yogi Adityanath.

Former chief minister of Gujarat and Congress strongman Shankersinh
Vaghela also forced to cancel his road shows and rallies in Junagadh, and
Mahuva and Palitana towns of Saurashtra.

Pankaj Kumar, Principal Secretary of Gujarat Revenue Department, said
the administration has deployed two NDRF teams in Surat and one each in
Navsari, Valsad, Bhavnagar and Amreli. “A deep depression is building, but
the good news is that the intensity of the cyclone is reducing as it heads
towards Surat. We are expecting moderate to heavy rainfall in various parts
of Gujarat. The government has formed a crisis management group to deal
with such situation.

The Air force, Army, Navy, Coast Guard, BSF — all have been put on alert,”
he added.

Schools will remain closed in south Gujarat on Wednesday.
